He stood and watched everyday
Across the street straight ahead
The sight and smells lured him
Worked on him like a charm
Oh what could he say
Bout’ the smell of warm bread
Smell of sugar made the head spin
Sprinkled on donut warm
Some topped with icing strawberry
Chocolate and flavors so many
Three tiered cakes with ganache
With little flowers sweet tasting
Made him crave very
If only he had a few penny
A few dollars here and there stashed
Today he would not be fasting
A homeless poor boy was he
Not familiar to privileges lots
The best that he could get
Was the whiff of fresh eclairs
Some stale tidbits free
Pastry someone dropped
His mind was now set
He soon took life by the horns
Took up work in a shop of confectionary
Learnt many skills
Worked hard gathered a wealth
Although life was a bed of thorns
Not a place to make merry
To never give up was his will
Worked in sickness and in good health
The day arrived
Finally a dream came true
Opened a shop did he
Of cakes donuts and pastries
The business did thrive
Perseverance got its due
Patience was the key
His success was no mystery
His reward was for the homeless
To hang a board up there
‘Take what you will
From this counter there’
‘Cause he was once poor never aimless
He climbed up the stairs
Achieved his dream until
He could help a hungry somewhere!
Foreword:In this world full of sad ,bad and mad news there comes a story of pure unadulterated humanity.A story which touches the heart and makes us believe that in a world where people are finding a reason to kill or hate someone on reasons of religion, race, caste or gender ,their are still some people who despite doing well in their lives are finding ways to put a smile on someones face.Such people are special by all means and their action awe inspiring.A big cheer to all the hearts full of kindness!
such a feel good poem. Loved it 🙂
