Fort Worth Zoo , USA

 TEXAS TUESDAY WITH KIDS #2

In those days my daughter was very fond of the T.V show Barney. That is how we learnt about the Zoo as one of its episode was shot there and being in Texas in those days we decided to pay a visit. Here is another blog telling about Barney’s visit to the FWZ. Although I do not agree with the opinion it is slightly hilarious nevertheless.

Located at 1989 Colonial Pkwy, Fort Worth, TX 76110, USA , it is an hour’s drive from Dallas Texas USA. Founded in 1909, the Zoo made their humble beginnings with a one lion, two bear cubs, an alligator, a coyote, a peacock and a few rabbits. However today it has more rhan 7000 native and foreign animals. The park is also nationally ranked.

What’s Unique

  1. Nationally ranked; rated by Trip Advisor as No. 5 in the country’s top Zoos
  2. the animal enclosures are quiet big and replicated to a little extent their natural habitat
  3. There is  a white tiger exhibit ; however to me it looked a little starvingrare1
  4. Your kids might also enjoy looking at the Baby elephants; We visited on a day it was ‘Happy Birthday Howie day’ ; Howie was a baby elephantfwb.jpg
  5. its M.O.L.A  is a unique exhibit where there is a panoply of amphibians and reptiles, being air-conditioned it is a cooling retreat from the Texas Sun
  6. Wednesdays are half price and free for toddlers on all days;
  7. it is a huge zoo at 64 acres and and a little planning would always work well; strollers are available for rent at the entrance
  8. this park is quiet well shaded as it is replete with trees and lush greenery and makes it comparatively cooler
  9. their is also a train ride from  Texas Wild and the Safari Depot, its a good way of breaking the monotony of walking especially while going back
  10. a very natural and forest-y ambiance with a lot of wooden structures and replete with tribal art easy to find directions as well as their are pointers everywhere you go..makes it convenient toovarious food optionsfwc.jpg
  11. FOOD OPTIONS; the place has its fair share of refreshments  at regular intervals comprising of drinks and dippin’ dots, popcorns and cola anailable near most exibits ;I remember eating at the Crocodile Cafe which has options like Burer King. What worked for me was that thankfully Bk has some edible vegetarian/vegan options as well unlike McD OR Taco King which makes me a little sad.  You can also choose from the Blue Bonnet Cafe and various other options. Besides if you prefer carrying your own food , it is permissible; not to forget their are various shaded areas for you to enjoy your meal as well
  1. VARIOUS Souvenir items you can choose from. However it was at the Wild Moments photography that we rather enthusiastically went to have a photo Souvenir. After being photographed against a green wall, with the aid of technology ,various zoo backgrounds would be superimposed in the picture souvenir. I am sure you could bespoke your souvenirs any which way you liked. However we were unable to go for it. The reason was apparently dh’s green t-shirt  as it makes the technology unlikely to work so whatever you do – DON’T WEAR GREEN!

What’s to See

World of Primates-2.5 acre of indoor and outdoor exhibits. Its a atrium with tropical rain forest which you can walk through and take a look at types of monkeys; gorillas, orangutans, mandrills, and white-cheeked gibbons.

Asian Falls-enclosure of the Asian elephants;  rhinos and takes them past other animals including like white tigers, Malayan tigers, striped hyenas and tufted deer .

Raptor Canyon.- home to different types of eagles and owls

Texas Wild- This has on exhibit various different native animals. In addition it also has a carousel of ponies, a play barn and Texas hall of wonders

Cheetahs-houses the cheetahs of course and bongos and warthogs

The Great Barrier Reef- It has the Great Barrier Reef exhibit as well as kangaroos and wallabies. This has on display Australian aquatic animals in aquariums and besides that about 500 animals all from various species.

the Museum of Living Art (MOLA) -It’s a hypertarium housing more than 5000 animals including a salt-water crocodile
